Artist and writer based in the Scottish Highlands, exploring how light, environment and weather shape our experience of the land and sea.
My work grows out of time spent observing atmosphere and weather shift across land and sea. I am interested in thresholds of visibility; moments when colour dissolves into tone, when forms appear or recede, and when perception becomes heightened. These conditions often occur at dusk, in storms, or under low light, when the familiar becomes uncertain and attention sharpens.
I have been painting for over thirty years. I am a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, affiliations that reflect the connection in my work between visual practice, observation, and environmental awareness.
My practice operates as a small, independent studio, allowing me to work closely, thoughtfully, and at an appropriate pace. Alongside painting, I meet with artists, astronomers, and local communities to celebrate and protect the region’s remarkable night skies, and I run workshops on creativity and art techniques.
