Scottish Highlands

The Sea’ acrylic on paper

Exploring how light & weather shape our experience of land & sea

My work is developed from sustained observation of light, weather, and atmosphere with a focus on thresholds of visibility and perception.

Based in Scotland for almost thirty years, my practice is run as small, independent studio where I regularly teach, and collaborate with artists, astronomers, and local communities to protect the Highlands’ unique spaces,

I regularly attend extended residencies in the UK and Europe, where I research the night sky, the sea and changing landscapes. These are recorded in handbound fieldbooks using watercolours, sketches, writing and photography.

My artwork is exhibited throughout Scotland and is in private collections around the world. I am a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and the Royal Society of Arts, and a Preferred Artist of the Visual Arts Association.
