Art history and the
practice of looking

LOOK BACK. THINK FORWARD.

What can the past teach us about solving
creative problems today?

The Art of Observation is a six-week live online course for artists, photographers, writers and thinkers who want to find new ways of seeing, thinking and creating.

We will use extraordinary works from art history to explore how people solved creative problems with the tools, materials and knowledge available to them, then turn those ideas forward and ask what they might make possible for us now.

EVERY WEDNESDAY
13th January to 17 February 2027

Background
Since 2020, I have delivered over 60 creativity- and STEAM-focused workshops for organisations in the Highlands, such as Connecting Carers, NHS Highland, and the Salvation Army. I designed these workshops to enhance team cohesion and service user well-being, with an emphasis on building confidence, supporting mental health, and providing a productive break from daily routines.

My team and I can offer workshops to your group or organisation either face-to-face or via Zoom. Sessions can also be adapted to different locations, either here at the fabulous Inverness Creative Academy or at a venue of your choosing within 10 miles of Inverness, including natural environments such as forests or beaches. Each session is tailored to the specific needs of your staff and volunteers, and those you represent; they also serve as an effective tool for raising public awareness of key issues affecting communities.

For more information on how these workshops can benefit your organisation or to discuss designing a programme for you, please contact me at hello@gaelhillyard.com or call 07525 820017. I look forward to collaborating with you and positively impacting your team and service users.
